About Us

History

The inaugural meeting to establish the Rotary Club of Huon Valley was held on 7th July 1992 and granted its Charter on 22nd October 1992.  The Club was incorporated on 8th September 2004.

Culture

The Rotary Club of Huon Valley is a club that enjoys tremendous fellowship and has an emphasis on helping people where ever we can, including each other.  We understand that everyone has busy lives to lead, and that sometimes Club members' time is very limited.  Club members are only asked to do what they can, when they can.

Structure

The Club is structured with a President (who holds office for one year) a President Elect (the incoming President), Immediate Past President, Secretary, Treasurer, Club Service Director, Vocational/New Generations Service Director, Community Service Director, International Service Director.  These people are nominated and elected each year and form the Club’s Board.  The Board meets on a monthly basis and is responsible for Club governance, finance, and decision-making as required.  The Club operates in a very transparent manner and all members are privy to the workings of the Club’s finances and are able to participate in its budgeting and programming process.  The budget and program are set prior to the beginning of each new year through a Think Tank, which is held on one day over a weekend away from our normal meeting venue.

Club Meetings

Most Rotary Clubs throughout the world meet on a weekly basis.  The Rotary Club of Huon Valley meets every Tuesday at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start at the Huon Manor, Short Street, Huonville.

Normal weekly meetings have a structure and are chaired by our Sergeant At Arms.  The meetings have time for fellowship; Directors’ Reports; President’s Time; general business; a raffle; and a Sergeant’s session.   We also have interesting guest speakers attend and we organise vocational visits to learn about other businesses and aspects of our community.

The last meeting of every month is a Club Forum, at which members are encouraged to discuss ideas, feedback and concerns in an open manner without recrimination.  The Treasurer also goes over the Club’s financials at this meeting.

Club Projects

The Rotary Club of Huon Valley is involved in numerous projects, locally in the Huon Valley, nationally and internationally.  Information about these projects can be found under Our Service Projects

The Rotary Club of Huon Valley offers great fellowship, and is involved with promoting high ethical standards in business practice.  This is one of the key tenets of Rotarians.
